Waterfowl and other water birds are in the process of migration. Take a trip to a nearby body of water and record your observations, even if there aren’t any birds.

Many species of insects have already getting ready for the end of their life cycles. What insect songs have you noticed getting quieter lately? Record your observations

Rutting season is starting for deer. Have you seen any recently? If so, have you noticed any physical changes to them?

Fallen leaf litter provides a suitable winter protection for a great many creatures. Try gently lifting the some leaves outside and record your findings. Be sure to gently replace the leaf litter when you’re done.

Fall is a great time to plant a tree. Looking back on past journal entrees or at a local guide, choose a tree species you’d like to plant and use your journal to detail when and where you’ll plant it, and why you think it’s the best spot.
